A Message From The President
Dear Jaycees,

WOW!  We are off to a great start in 2010 and it's because of the efforts of EACH member.  By listening to what our members wanted and learning how to share the value we were able to lead February to our first growth month of the year.  Now, we are only need to grow in March by around 180 members to grow for the first quarter. That's less growth than we had in June of 2009! Can you imagine that... when is the last time we could claim FIRST QUARTER growth.  It's been several decades and together, we will be the team to make it happen.

Let’s continue to capitalize with new value from the US Chamber Partnership, netSpray opportunities in social media, Passport to Leadership enrollment and through the strong support of our national programs this year.

The entire executive team is here to serve you and thank you for allowing us this opportunity to not only help, but share in the exciting times you have created by helping us grow in membership and value.  It's our continued attitude of welcoming new members and appreciating the members we have that is making 2010 such a great year to be a Jaycee. I know we can continue to do it!  When we grow for the QUARTER, I will present a special toast to our success during the Annual Meeting in New Orleans!!!

Please let me know however I can assist you and thank you for being a part of the team in 2010!

The National Oustanding Young Farmers

These ten outstanding men & women in the field of agriculture were honored during the weekend of February 10-14, in Raleigh, North Carolina during the 2010 NOYF Awards Congress.  These individuals received accolades from all in attendance, the past men and women recognized during the previous Awards Congresses.

The weekend included the final judging process - individual interviews, speakers, panel discussions, and tours and concluded with the formal Awards Banquet and Ceremony, which was taped and shown the consecutive two Saturday shows following the congress on “This Week in Agribusiness” hosted by our Emcee of over forty years, Orion Samuelson.

The Theme Friday night banquet was ‘Hoedown BBQ & Barn Dance’ and as you can see great fun was had that evening. The event was held at the County Line Bluegrass Barn owned by 2008 National Winners Charlotte & Dwayne Vick Farrell of Wilson County.

On Saturday after the NACAA breakfast, OFA Forum, John Deere Luncheon the weekend came to an end with the naming of the four National Winners.  They are Patrick & Sara McGuire of Ellsworth, MI; Richard & Debbie Norz of Hillsborough, NJ; Brandon & Monica Schafer of Goodhue, MN and Ryan & Annie Williams of Farwell, TX.

Each of the National Winners received a $3000 bond from our long time sponsor John Deere along with another all expense paid trip to Washington, DC during Ag week.  They will have an opportunity to meet the Secretary of Agriculture, tour the city along with having a chance to attend the many events held during the week.

If you have any questions about this event or the NOYF program, please don’t hesitate to contact the National Programs Manager, Sheri Lassiter 918.584.2481 x441 or oyf@usjaycees.org.

The purpose of the Outstanding Young Farmer program is to bring about a greater interest in the farmer, to foster better urban-rural relations through the understanding of the farmers’ problems, to develop an appreciation of their contributions and achievements, and to inform the agribusiness community of the growing urban awareness of farmers’ importance and impact on the American economy.

This year’s event, again being sponsored by John Deere, will be held at the Hilton North in Raleigh , NC on February 11-14, 2010. Besides featuring the awards ceremony recognizing our nation’s best young farmers, the event will include comedian Jay Hendren, special guest speaker Steve Troxler, tours, and lots of good food.  For more information about this great event go to:
